Business computers. What’s the difference?

There are a bundle of computers available today in your local PC super stores, small computer shops or bargain basements on the Internet. But be careful in your selection as a cheap PC purchase could end up costing you more in the long run.

Here is a small checklist that we swear by for our Business PC Models:

  • Quality Motherboard. We choose Intel or Gigabyte, models vary but you focus on less of the fancy features that will never be used and stick to exactly what our customers will require.
  • Intel i5 and i7 CPU.
  • Intel GT Pro Gigabit Network Controller PCI Card.
  • Separate graphics. Most often a 512MB Gigabyte Graphics Adapter.
  • 4GB/8GB Kingston Memory (Lifetime warranty)
  • Seagate/Samsung 7200rpm Hard drive.
  • HD 1920x1080p Samsung Monitor.
  • Extended warranty for the 3 year turnaround period.
  • Microsoft/Logitech keyboard and mouse sets.
  • Heavy Duty Extra Quiet Power Supplies.

This is our minimum recommendation for business machines. If your company focuses on high level graphics and video production, the graphic adapters and hard drives would vary considerably, as would a sound engineering system’s digital sound output requirements.

Data Recovery. Can my data be recovered?

Data recovery is the process of salvaging data from damaged, failed, corrupted, formatted, fdisked or inaccessible media when it cannot be accessed through normal operations. This includes storage media such as computer and laptop hard disks, CDs, DVDs, SD Memory Cards, USB Drives and even Digital Video Cameras.

In most cases your data can be recovered using our data recovery software at affordable cost. This can sometimes take 24 hours to complete on large drives and even longer if we need to do multiple passes.

Formatted and/or a hard disk that has had an FDISK down or the partition deleted can also be recovered using these tools.

What to keep in mind of when your data has been lost is the following rules:

  • Do not Defragment your hard drive.
  • Avoid running a series of trial data recovery solutions
  • Do not recover files to the source drive
  • Disconnect the drive if possible to avoid overwriting the files tagged for deletion.
  • Be careful with the hardware until you can get it to us.

We provide a no-recovery no-pay guarantee for all our data recovery services and, if needed, we can send it on to be analysed further.

Why might I need a server?

Many people are under the misconception that a server is no different from a typical desktop PC. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Servers are optimized for providing services to a number of users as opposed to serving a single user interactively and is engineered to manage, store, send and process data, 24 hours a day, every day.

You will find yourself in the position of looking at a server for your business if the following items are true:

  • You need a central location to share files
  • Backups are not being done correctly each day
  • You want to be able to access your email mailbox on multiple computers
  • You want to share the same mailbox between users
  • You would like to host an Internal Website for documents, tasks and events
  • You want to secure your protected files
  • You want to access your computers remotely and have a firewall in place
  • You want to have smart phones hooked up to your users email accounts
  • You need your data processed more efficiently
  • You have a central printer service
  • You want to host a database solution
  • Virus and Malware management
